Brothers Three Brown Swiss has humble beginnings from our native southern York County, Pennsylvania. We had been showing Holsteins locally rather unsuccessfully and were looking for a new, and hopefully more successful way to expand our 4-H project. In early 1991, two calves were purchased from the Foust Hill herd of the Krone family in Glen Rock. These calves took us beyond the county level to our first district and later state shows. They also encouraged the change from Holsteins to Brown Swiss. Soon after, two more calves were purchased, McCoy Jinxson Nutmeg and BCR Fernando Bambi. While these calves experienced modest results, it would be their two daughters that put Brothers Three on the map.
Brothers Three Nutty Buddy and Brothers Three Snowflake were both named state Bell Ringers in 1995. A year later, both Emory daughters calved with blue ribbon udders and hit the tanbark trail running that fall. When the dust had settled, they both stood at the top of their class at the Southeastern National in Louisville, Kentucky and were nominated All-American. They later would both be scored Excellent, a homebred first. The excitement generated from that accomplishment completed the switch.
Without a doubt, two of the most influential cows we have been privileged to work with are no strangers to most breed enthusiasts: Top Acres Coll Party and Brothers Three Wisper. Party was a 4-H project that Joseph purchased from Top Acres in the spring of 2000. She went on that year to be named Junior Champion at the All American Dairy Show and stand first at World Dairy Expo. Wisper was the first daughter of a calf we purchased in the Mid Atlantic Calf Sale, Top Acres Jetway Wisp, who was the 1999 All-American Fall Yearling.
Wisper and Party stood first and second in the Spring Yearling class at World Dairy Expo in 2001. They were Junior and Reserve Junior Champion of the youth show. Wisper was Junior Champion of the open show. A year later, they were first and second again, this time as Junior 2-year olds. By then, Party was owned in partnership with Top Acres. In 2003, Party was sold through the Top Acres Milking Herd Finale for a record $86,000 to New View Swiss.
In February 2008, a large portion of our herd was sold to Vine Valley Farm in New York. While this sale represents a major change for our herd, we continue to own and develop a small group of elite show cattle.
Since 1991, Brothers Three has bred, owned, or developed 4 All-Americans, 2 Reserves, 1 Honorable Mention, 16 Nominations, 14 National Bell Ringers, and 25 Pennsylvania State Bell Ringers
We hope that you enjoy your time at Brothers Three.com and welcome any inquiries or questions you have about the cattle that we have bred.
